What subjects does an Architect studies during 5 years in Bachelors of Architecture (B.Arch.) !

Before we discuss further, let me introduce myself and reference of these topics. I have studied B.arch from, M.I.E.T., Gondia, one of the best college in the state of Maharashtra, India. We had college timing of 10.30 am to 5.00 pm. A very strict environment and our department was situated on the second floor. A total of max. 40 students were allowed at that time in the batch.

1.     Visual Arts: Drawing real objects like, composition of vessels and clothes. Sketching of outside landscape with the use of different types of colors like water, poster, pencil & crayons etc. Study and drawing of color wheel.

2.     Math: Only basics in one semester.

3.     History of Architecture (H.O.A.): Studying various periods in the field of architecture, like modernism, byzantine, classical etc. from where one can also learn about design principles, by observing buildings etc. 

 

4.     Model Making: Learning surface development of different basic forms like cube, cuboid etc. and making them with tinted paper, mount board etc.

5.     Computer Application: Learning basics like Excel, ppt, & word etc.

6.     Graphics: Drafting  basic forms like cube’s plan, elevation & sections.  And solving questions like these.

7.     Construction & Advanced Construction: Learning various form of structures, type of foundation, beam & column, window details etc. and Hand drafting on all these topics. And in advanced construction one studies about space structure etc.

8.     Climatology: Types of climate and their study with respect of the building. Use of different material according to climatic conditions & vernacular architecture.

9.     Working Drawing: Drawing that are drawn for govt. approval as per local rules. And making of complete drawing set that is required for a project.

10.  Urban Planning: An elective subject, which has topic related of town planning. Study of great town planners and their designed towns etc.

11.  Landscape Design: Various elements of landscape like, pathway, bollards etc. and planning of a small landscape project.

12.  Interior Design: Concept designing, making complete execution drawing i.e. 2D & 3D.

13.  Design: A Design Project is given like of Bungalow, School, Hospital etc. for learning of complete designing process.

14.  Software’s: AutoCAD, Photoshop, Sketch up & Revit etc. are taught and needs to be learned for drawing 2d, 3D & Rendering.

15.  Professional Practice: Code of coduct for architects. Different Acts are taught like Architects Act 1972 etc.

Must do's during an architectural intership.

    1. Try to learn as much as possible. Try to understand in detail, way of working of office. If you might want to have one in future😉. 2. And documentation of projects on PC & file. 3. Printing of drawings & connectivity of PC & printer. You need to know about hardware as well.  It is  part of  work. 4. Ask question to seniors & experienced working staff their, don't hesitate. 5. Learn from everyone. 6. Go for site visit as much as possible, to learn execution part of drawing and other things. 7. Pay attention to format of estimate, work order, & drawings etc. Ask seniors about architectural fees for different kind of project, that will definitely going to help. 8. Make future plans, utilize time after office hours, plan for at least for initial 5 years. Like places where one want to work etc. 9. 6 Must do during architectural thesis.

   1. Preplan everything like how many sheets will be made & time required.  Try to finish work within that timeframe only. 2. Leave at least 3 day before submission to work on sheet,that is least Worked on. 3.  Take help of seniors & juniors. Like for model making,  taking photographs of them.  For printout at shops. 4. Complete 2D drawing first then go for concept sheet & at last 3D,because lapi many times get hung due to heavy file.  Rendering of 3D takes long time.  One can use lapi of junior/senior for rendering 3D as well. 5. At last do the format of sheet i.e. little of thesis your name etc. 6. Generally finalization of sheet is done on photoshop.  So size of sheet (mb) depends on size of paper A4/AO/Roll. Don't save image as high-quality as this type of file take lot of time for printing. Use optimum quality. 7. Take printouts 1 day before submission.
